Bad Piggies Review

Bad Piggies Review

You can’t deny that Rovio have had phenomenal success with Angry Birds, making these wingless and legless creatures as recognizable as Sonic or Mario.  Just as famous are the game’s villains – those chuckling green piggies.  After countless iterations of Angry Birds games, Rovio have now let the bad guys have a spin-off of their own, namely “Bad Piggies“.  However don’t expect any catapulting pigs – the gameplay here is completely different.

The idea is that you build a vehicle for your piggy to ride, and send it off through the terrain in the hope of reaching the chequered flag.  Putting the vehicles together is as simple as dragging the parts onto a grid, and there are a variety of parts including wheels, balloons, engines, soda-bottle boosters and umbrellas.  Once you have something that looks like it might make the trip, press the tick-mark icon and watch the chaos.  Activating/deactivating parts gives you limited control over your vehicle, but getting there will mostly depend on your design and sheer luck.

I’ve always enjoyed games that let you be creative, and Bad Piggies has this in spades.  There isn’t just a single solution that will get you where you want to go, so this game has a high replayability factor.  The journey part of the game is also hugely entertaining, where the timing of when you activate parts making the difference between reaching the finish line or crashing in pieces down a hole.  You’ll have genuine laugh-out-loud moments playing this game.

You’ll probably be able to tell by now that I really love this game.  Rovio may be using their Angry Birds success to promote this game, but they should be commended for producing something original.  They have proved they aren’t a one-trick pony, and it’s great to see them releasing the game simultaneously on iOS and Android.  It’s free but ad-supported (what do you want for nothing) from the play store, so go get it now.
