Welcome back guys I have another fantastic review for you today and well its a combination of 2 items into one, we have the GTIDE power bank with mini bluetooth keyboard.
It was only a matter of time until portable power banks gained an extra purpose and GTIDE seem to have pulled it off design wise very well, sporting a full qwerty keyboard this power banks has a 5000mAh Li-Polymer battery, for us who are 100 % with the technical terms or just don’t want to Google what it all means i’ll put it this way it’s pretty good.
Like many of you out there i leave my devices on charge all night while I sleep so there was no issue in adding another item to that list, however it did come with charge in it so i had no need for the first night.
It uses USB to draw in the power to the storage cells and can hold a reasonable amount and its enough to charge a HTC One M8 twice before needing a recharge, it utilizes the micro USB cable by using the micro end into the bank to charge it and the micro end into your device to charge that but that it pretty much an industry standard these days.
As it’s mentioned in the title of the review, it does have a mini qwerty keyboard which if i was completely honest i didn’t find that useful, its a great feature don’t get me wrong but I never really found that essential use for it, instead I found I was purposely finding reasons to get it out of my bag to use but the novelty wore off quite quick.
The buttons are a lovely matte rubber and are a reasonable size but with touch screen phones the norm these days i did find i had to adjust back to physical buttons again even though its a qwerty keyboard it isn’t a full PC keyboard which i am very use to, to me the keyboard on a powerbank is like buying a new car with a roof box, its nice to know its there if you ever need it.
The charge indicator comes in the form of 4 very bright blue led’s representing the different stages of charge 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% but as I said very bright I found that I had to have it face down at night as it did turn my bedroom into Blackpool (Las Vegas for our American brothers) and i would have liked to have seen a dimmer to tone them down a bit.
The size isn’t too bad, roughly the size of an iphone 5 it’s in the 5 inch area which is just in the smaller charger category but at the larger end of that scale by weight, well that’s a different story, my HTC One M8 felt considerably lighter than the power bank, so it will be noticeable in your pocket.
OK my verdict, is it worth getting? To be honest it isn’t that bad, yes it has great charge rate and can charge my device twice on a single charge and yes i did find the keyboard a bit of a redundant feature however its nice to know its there if my onscreen keyboard ever fails and at £29.99 or $46 US dollars its a great bargain.
I give it a reasonable 7 out of 10 it was useful however it would like to have a more premium feel from it.
