Icon Themer (Root) – Review

Icon Themer, a new app from the developer who bought us HelixLauncher and QuickDesk, aims to bring any icon pack to any custom launcher. This is pretty big thing especially for those of us who over the years have bought various icon packs and have changed launchers more times than hot dinners.

Icon Themer is pretty easy to setup, though it does require Xposed Framework which can be installed directly through the app, so the IT module can be activated. As you may have guessed this will also mean you will need Android 4.0+ and a rooted device to use it. Once the framework is installed and the Icon Themer module is activated, simply reboot your device and any installed icon packs will show up. Select the one you want, hit Apply and after another reboot, your new icon pack should be active. Told you it was easy.

Icon themer (I found out) applies the icon packs across your phone, menu included, so the integration is pretty badass. This also explains the need for root. Though there are issues with MIUI roms and there are some issues with HTC devices (Sense in particular) but the developer promises a fix. I also personally found out it sometimes needs a couple of reboots to work.

The price is current 99p, which I have to admit is pretty good. If you think about the money spent on icon packs for launchers you don’t use anymore.
