Official LG G3 Qi Wireless Charger – Review
Now the standard in wireless charging, Qi chargers are becoming vastly popular. You’ll find various models with different features, designs, price and even a few we have reviewed for you. Today we are looking at the official LG G3 Qi Wireless Charger. Said charger uses the Qi standard as mentioned so works with every device that carries the Qi markings. We’ll go ahead and break things down into the bits we like, dislike, love, loath and hate. Actually, there isn’t much to hate with this accessory from LG. You set your device on it and it charges like it should…
Built in plastic, the unit is extremely light and portable. The design behind it is definitely from a less is more attitude. Nice clean lines and rounded edges make the Official LG G3 Qi Wireless Charger seem subtle and understated, to me, this is a very good thing. There’s no big ghastly flashing lights, if you’re using this on your bed stand at night like I do, you wont even know it’s there. Upon searching I can only find the charger in a white colour, I know some folks like black and metal finishes, maybe a few colour alternatives would be a good thing form LG. Having used the accessory for a good few weeks, there’s no discolouring, it just sits there and doesn’t get handled. (As always, keep kids and pets away from your tech.)
Simply set any device that uses the Qi standard on the charger and it’ll charge your device. The Official LG G3 Qi Wireless Charger has a folding action so it can sit flat or simply swing it round so your device sits up. Charging works in landscape or portrait using my daily device which is the Nexus 5. ( I added that in just in-case anyone asks.) You’ll get a notification tone to say your device is in the correct position and it’s starting to charge. Some other chargers like this can act funny on the way they want the device to sit, a little more left, a little more right to find the sweet spot. Gladly that’s not the case here.
A quick mention on the build quality.. I can’t find any flaws, the charger sits flush on a table, the device, when mounted, rests very nicely. I haven’t noticed it wobble or about to take a dive to the floor. When in the upright position your phone will sit on a nice little ledge, when sitting flat, I can assure you it won’t slip off. (There’s no pads or anything) Yeah gravity!

With a charging output of only 1 A this brings me to my first issue. I can really notice the difference of using the Official LG G3 Qi Wireless Charger against using the supplied charger for my device. The stock plug for my phone charges at 2 A. If it’s late in the evening and I’m heading out for a few hours and know my battery might not last until I come home again, I wouldn’t use the wireless charger to top up.(It’s also worth mentioning here that the device gets a little warm when charging. This is usually the same with most wireless chargers. Don’t be alarmed and don’t leave it on charge all the time either. Charging over night will be OK) The packaging also clearly states that no USB cable/ cord is included. This probably isn’t an issue for most people, we all have spare wall plugs and a thousand micro USB lying around anyway, but, please take notice just in-case.
Priced at just under £60 GBP, the Official LG G3 Qi Wireless Charger is certainly above the average price for products like this. We’ve mentioned before that you can find wireless chargers for a fiver on EBay. How good are they? Well, we can’t really comment on that. Here, you’re getting the official and fully licensed accessory from LG, with a full EU warranty.
