Right Angle OTG Host Adapter – Review

5in Right Angle Micro USB to USB OTG Host Adapter M/F – Review

One of my most loved things about being an android user is the ability to use USB OTG cables.

I have plugged keyboards, mice, Xbox controllers, USB drives and even RS232 serial cables into my tablets and phones. Whether it be for business or pleasure everyone should have a USB OTG cable to hand. I have owned a fair few and some of them have felt really cheap and don’t last too long.

The right angled USB OTG cable from Startech seems to have a different story. It is made of a high gloss black plastic, meaning it looks great when plugged into your device. The cable is soft and flexible so it won’t break at the joints and the right angle is designed to reduce stress on the cable and your usb port. Due to the surface mounted nature of micro USB, anything that reduces stress on cables that can be snagged and pulled is always welcome.

My Sony Z4 tablet detected the cable without any problems and streamed a full HD movie with hardly any heat up and no problems with video playback. I tested it with a keyboard and Xbox controller and as expected it handled them both just fine. With such a simple but useful tool there isn’t much more to say about it. It looks great and works, what more could you ask for?

If you haven’t heard of StarTech they are an ISO9001 registered company who have been making IT accessories since 1985 and have been expanding ever since. So you can trust that their products are made to a good standard and are not a knock-off factory.

If you don’t have an OTG cable I recommend you pick one up and explore the potential, or if you just aren’t happy with your current one then at £2.51 you can’t go wrong with the Startech cable found below via Misco.
