Portable High Res Audio From Pioneer – The XDP-100R

XDP-100R featured

Pioneer just announced the launch of its XDP-100R Digital Audio Player – a portable high res music player that supports many high res audio formats including DSD (up to 11.2MHz) and FLAC/WAV (24bit/384kHz) files. Featuring technology usually reserved for high-end audio products, the XDP-100R has been designed to be THE source for digital music and the best audio player Pioneer could build. Significantly, the XDP-100R will be one of the first products in the world to support the upcoming MQA format – a revolutionary coding system that offers extreme High Res Audio in streamable file sizes.

Available now, the Pioneer XDP-100R is available in black or silver with a UK SRP of £499.99.

Based on Android™ OS, the class leading 4.7 inch colour display allows users to install Google Play™ apps to further expand its capabilities whilst Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support allow for a variety of wireless connectivity options. With the preloaded OnkyoMusic app, users can download high res audio files without the need of a PC. With two micro SD card slots, along with the built in storage, users can max out the total storage up to 432GB and file transfer of existing music is simple, thanks to the X-DAP Link app.

Streaming music is also simple, as streaming service apps that include TIDAL, Spotify and Deezer are pre-loaded onto the XDP-100R. Users just need to enter their account details into the app on the player and they will be up and running instantly.

Designed from the ground up as a dedicated music player, the XDP-100R features the latest digital audio technology. ESS technology’s top of the line SABRE DAC ES9018K2M and SABRE 9601K amplifier operate within an isolated closed loop construction to eliminate any extraneous noise. The audio board and CPU board are separated internally, further isolating sources of noise, using the same approach as separating an amplifier from the playback device in a component stereo system. Analogue circuitry is consolidated around the headphone jack, keeping the switching circuitry as far away as possible to keep noise isolated. The circuitry is all housed within a ridged aluminium chassis with removable bumpers top and bottom that protect cables and connectors from wear and tear.

That’s an impressive spec sheet! ( We hope you’ll forgive the copy and paste, we wanted to make sure the information is correct.) It’ll be fairly obvious that the XDP-100R is being targeted towards “audiophiles,” with a high price tag to match. Personally speaking, I’m not the resident audio enthusiast at droidhorizon but we should have a sample product soon to give our non biased review on the device and share our opinions in an article. So, keep an eye out in the coming weeks if the Pioneer XDP-100R is something you’d be interested in buying. Leave any questions or thoughts below in the comments section, we’re happy to interact with our readers.

Chief Editor of DroidHorizon. I own a few different devices at the minute and enjoy writing reviews and sharing what I think is cool. You can often find me playing Playstation 4 or sprawled across the couch with headphones on (maybe with a nice beer or gin & tonic in-hand)
