RAVPower 8400mAh External Battery Charger – Review
With the never ending supply of gadgets we will always be in need of battery power. But with a never ending supply of external batteries, we really need to start focusing on design and style. RAVPower have done just that with their 8400mAh external battery charger.
I went for the white version of this charger, as I thought it offered a slightly more classier look to the overall device. On the top of the device, you are greeted with a on/off button and a lovely selection of blue LEDs. On the front are two output ports, a torch and a charging port. The entire device is white with a silver border. As I mentioned this attractive unit provides two USB output ports. Output 1 provides 5V/1A while Output 2 provides 5V/2A. So I would suggest using Output 2 for tablets, like the nexus 7, that require the increased power for charging. Devices that require less power can be charged on either Output port.
The RAVPower offers a plethora of great features such as an auto-shutoff to conserve power and has overcurrent and short circuit protection. You are able to use both outputs simultaneously to charge or operate two devices at the same time. Which means travelling with the spouse has just gotten easier, as you no longer have to hog the battery charger. As with most chargers, holding down the power button will activate the LED flashlight.
The 4-blue LED’s provide an indication of the battery status of the Power Bank.
- 1-light = <25% charge.
- 2-lights = 25-50% charge,
- 3-lights = 50-75% charge.
- 4-lights = 75-100% charge.
You can charge the RAVPower via a micro-USB port on the side. To add value to the pack, RAVPower include two usb cables, a selection of connectors and a flannel bag with drawstring to put everything into.

This is a cheap to buy, good looking device. It offers a great ability to charge devices on the fly, and I highly recommend grabbing one.
