Retroid – Review

Retroid is an Arkanoid based game. Arkanoid is basically the japanese version of Breakout. Taurris (The developer) have added some bright, trippy graphics to the game and has succeeded in adding a retro feel to this otherwise spacey game. This game is built around the entire premise of pickup and play. You don’t get any instructions and to be honest you wont need them, this game is all about mobile gaming and this makes it a very easy game to just pick up and play.

Normally I would supply screenshots of the game, but I found they don’t do the game any justice. The animation is liquid smooth, the gameplay is fast and furious, and, just looks great on the screen. Its one of only a few games I can claim feels high-def. Those these come at a price, the bight colours and fast animations make the game at times difficult to concentrate on. You’ve got to keep your eye on the ball and you have animations bouncing around in the background. This may have been a clever tactic on the developers side, as this adds another level of difficulty to the game. On some levels there is so much stuff happening on the screen that you can

As a massive fan of breakout games, I can say this game is very close to it. Each level gets progressively harder and I did sometimes feel like throwing the phone against a wall. Players can either place their fingers on the bumper and drag it around or simply press down on the place where they want the bumper to go. I felt that when the controls were working, they worked great. But at times the bumper didn’t move quick enough, but this could be no fault of the game, but just my poor reflexes.

You get 15 levels with this game, subsequent levels are then charged. But to be honest you get a lot of game for not spending anything, and I feel after 15 levels, you’ll probably pay for the additional stages.
