Review: Have peace of mind with the LugaLake UFO Speaker

There are truck load of inexpensive Bluetooth speakers out in the world, but few that are built to handle showers, being dropped and speakerphone calls, in addition to all the regular speaker duties. The £20 LuguLake UFO Speaker does all of the above, and for less than speakers that aren’t as versatile. It won’t impress the audiophiles, but audio quality is strong. And while you can find a better Bluetooth speaker if you’re willing to pay more, for the price, you won’t find one this well rounded (excuse the pun).

The dimensions are 6.5 x 4.1 x 2 inches ; 8.2 ounces. The LuguLake UFO comes in three color options: Blue, Red, and Green. The speaker has a hard plastic coating around the outer rim of the speaker, with rubber enclosures going around the centre and sides that are water resistant.

The speaker comes with clip allowing it to be fastened to a shower, or any manner of objects. As a man who loves a shower, I can confirm the clip is shower worthy and keep the speaker secure. I discovered that it latches on and does so very well. Trying to pull it off of the shower wasn’t all that easy.

All the physical controls are located around the diameter of the speaker, indicated by four embossed logos. The Power button at the top is self-explanatory, while the Play button below it also serves to pause music, answer and reject incoming calls, and activate Bluetooth pairing mode. The two volume controls below that also let you change tracks. The buttons themselves are recessed, so they can be a little tricky to find with head and shoulders in your eyes, but overall I didn’t have much of a problem.

You’ll also find a 3.5mm cable attached to the speaker itself, so you can connect audio sources that lack Bluetooth. This wraps round the speaker and then is hidden in the back.

The sound and audio quality won’t blow you away compared to a lot of other speakers, however it is a pretty decent quality. I found running it on full blast caused it to be a bit distored, but at a normal enjoyable level sounds was fine.

Don’t expect a lot of bass from the LuguLake UFO as that’s not what it’s intended for. Focus for the LuguLake UFO is on the mids and the highs.

For someone wanting a speaker to use in the shower, small room, or just a non-intrusive personal speaker, then the LuguLake UFO is something worth checking into as that’s where you’ll find it has the best sound quality in my opinion.

You can find the LuguLake UFO starting around £20 and that’s not a very bad price for what you will get. It’s got a pretty decent sound quality and the fact that you can take it into the shower or out by the pool and not have to worry about the water ruining it makes it that much more worth it.

It’s not the greatest speaker around, but its also not claiming to be, it’s not intended to be at the price point it’s offered at. It’s more about convenience and portability with it’s small size and being able to place it just about anywhere. Definitely something I’d recommend to anyone looking for a sub cheap speaker.
