Review: KitSound Arcade Headphones

When these arrived at my desk, the look (to me) seemed dated, but after using them I found the “retro” style a great accompaniment to the crisp clear sound they produced. They don’t offer noise-cancellation, but they are extremely striking and felt like a pretty premium product, even though the price is only £20.

I paired up the Arcades with my M8 with zero problems. Audio quality sounded fantastic, and latency was well within the range I’d expect with Bluetooth headsets. To pair them, I simply held down the “pair” button on the ear housing. Battery life has been fantastic, with up to 8 hours of playtime.

The controls on the Arcades worked when tested, though the small size and position of the buttons didn’t exactly make it easy for me to use. I found that I prefer controls on the outside of the headphones to be large and textured. The Arcades can also be operated without Bluetooth with an included 3.5mm stereo adapter. Charging is achieved through the USB port via an included USB cable.

The headphones themselves are very solidly built. I feel very confident in their durability. The Arcades uses a single band arrangement that makes for a good fit on your head. The band is on rails so you can increase their size. They’re flat enough when compacted to fit in a messenger bag or backpack, though they’re by no means small.

Personally I wouldn’t class these are “over” the ear, this may be down to my huge ears but they didn’t exactly fit over them.

The sound is amazing, the Arcades are an decidedly enjoyable listening experience, and I’ve been loving the clear sound, and fantastic bass. Because there is no active noise-cancellation, you don’t miss out on nuance, but they are loud enough to completely block out outside noise.

The excellent quality and booming bass of the Arcades is more likely to appeal to a more general audience that enjoys popular music, and is looking for an on-ear / over-ear headphone that is portable and provides good natural noise-cancelling properties.

The Arcades are an exceptional Bluetooth headphone, with excellent audio, great battery life, portability, and a retro looks (if thats your kind of thing). While there are a few concerns (annoying controls), these headphones fill the role they were meant to. If you’re after a easy to pack set of cheap headphones, that offer great sound, then I’d recommend the Arcades.
