Review: The Power Bank Free 15000mAh from Xtorm

The requirement for more power is a ever growing trend. More and more phones are coming with non removable batteries, and this means people are needing to carry backup power with them. As me and my wife both have phones with non removable batteries (S6 Edge and M8), whenever we go out for a day, we always pack a battery. Normally it’s a fight for who can charge theirs first, so I was pleased to get to try out the Power Bank Free from Xtorm, which rocks a 15o00mAh battery with 3 output ports! Allowing simultaneous charging of 3 devices at once. The Power Bank 15000 is part of Xtorms rather contemporary and stylish Power Bank range.

The Power Bank Free is an internal li-ion battery, with a huge 15000mAh capacity. On testing this was enough energy to fully charge my S6 Edge 7 times completely. Which meant that me and the wife could charge our phones around 3.5 times each, allowing for more Cut The Rope playing time.

You may have noticed the bright orange USB cable merged to the battery, this is a really nice feature for two reasons. It allows for quick and easy charging wherever you are, you don’t need to have an AC charger with you, or make sure you carry a spare USB cable. It also adds a slice of character to the power bank itself. With its matte non-slip grey top, and white rim, this could be classed as looking a bit dull. But when you have a bright orange cable out the side, it makes you notice it a bit more, and in a world full of power banks, its nice to see something a bit different.

Another advantage of the Power Bank Free is the very fast charging time; input (5V/2.0A) charges 2x as fast and output (5V/3A) charges 3x as fast, which is as fast as my power outlet. Three mobile devices charging at once, has no effect on this charge speed, and in no way heats up the battery.

There is the standard LED indicator which provides me with the energy (still) available. The button I really liked, as it’s a brushed chrome material, allowing me to start and stop the charging procedure with a single press.

The outer rim of the Power Bank is a white plastic, but on the top is a dark grey rubber material. Throw in that brushed chrome button, and the whole thing  looks really good, and feels good in the hand.

Features of the Power Bank Free are:

  • Battery capacity 15.000mAh
  • Battery-type Li-ion
  • Dimensions 13×7,5×2,2cm
  • Input 2A 5V
  • Output 3x USB (3,5A combined/ max)
  • Weight 300 grams
  • Including Manual, Pouch and Micro USB Charging Cable

What’s the price for all this, it clocks in at around £45. I was a little surprised, as I though honestly it would be more. The premium materials, the total battery size, and the 3 outputs, make this a great family buy. You can easily fit it in a bag, and you can charge multiple devices on the go. Check it out below:
