ZAGG Pocket Keyboard Review

Company – ZAGG the company that’s been slapping helicopter parts into our devices since 2005. They created arguably one of the best screen protectors you can get; the InvisibleShield. If you didn’t know, InvisibleShield is made from the same stuff they protect helicopter blades with. Screens are getting stronger and there will come a day when we no longer need to add that extra level of protection. Phillip Chipping, founder of ZAGG has been thinking of ways to expand his business.Going into keyboards, Bluetooth headphones, cases and anything else Phillip thinks he can do better at than anyone else.

Product – LG have announced a foldable Bluetooth keyboard which will be available to purchase soon, but ZAGG released one earlier in the year that you can order today. The foldable design means you can store it in your jacket pocket or bag with ease. Styled with black brushed metal means it will complement your mobile device rather than looking out of place. This keyboard is not a work horse, it’s for when you’re sitting on a train or have popped out of the office for a coffee but need to reply to an important email or make some notes – the sort of work that a real keyboard makes easier. The keyboard feels sturdy when on a desk and holds up to 8” devices just fine. However I never feel totally confident unfolding this keyboard as the joints feel a bit week and it seems to have visible ribbon cables traveling from each section. People have really noticed how weak this keyboard feels when I’ve passed it to them. Although it’s not such a big problem as you only notice it when unfolding the product, but it still takes away the premium feel. The keys have a nice amount of spacing considering its size but it’s just a shame they feel so soft and squidgy with no firm return which I would prefer, although this could be because of how slim the keyboard is. A nice touch on the keyboard is that when it’s open it’s on when it’s closed it’s off. No switches or buttons to press each time making it a seamless experience.

Packaging – Worthy of any store display stand. Clean with enough printed information for you to know what you’re getting. It opens like a booklet using a magnetic clasp and once opened you can see the keyboard and even press the space keys to see if you like the travel distance.

Price – £59.99 I feel that this is at the top price range for this product. I would be comfortable paying about £30 to £40. If the keys had a nicer return and it felt solid while unfolding then £60 would be fair. Maybe ZAGG will release a second version which could be amazing but this is lacking a few final touches. Get this keyboard if you find it on sale or can cope with the down sides.
