Switchr – Review

Multitasking is what Android is about. But the whole process of picking a running app has always been clunky. You have to tap the dedicated button, or double tap for Sense user and then select the app you want to run. Or you can then open the draw and pick the app you want. But if your in the mood for a change then Switchr is the way to go. This app throws in an easy to use system of switching your running apps. Switchr has made the jump from beta to the playstore and I highly recommend grabbing it.

Switchr - Review 1

As soon as Switchr is installed you get the option to pick from two different methods of switching apps. Slide is similar to Windows 8 and you have to side out the app from the slide, then almost tap it on the side again to switch the app. Flow is similar to Apples coverflow system, and allows you to swipe across the screen to the app you want to open. There are other gestures you can do to access parts of the Switchr menu. Swipe in from the edges to call upon the Switchr menu. Also you can swipe down to close all open apps. There have been worries that if a lot of apps are running then Switchr will start to use a lot of RAM, though I have tested with 20 open apps and didn’t notice any major performance issues. After testing both methods, Im all over Switchr Flow, Slide just feels a bit slow and doesn’t look as good.

Switchr - Review 2

A lot of people would say that this method can be just as cumbersome as the stock recent apps method. But looking at how it works, I’m happy to go an extra couple of clicks to get something like that. Once its all setup then you just swipe and you’re off. Now while I could explain how the system looks when its implemented. I thought I would record a video showing it off:

Switchr feels right at home with Android, and looks like something the OS might someday take over and implement by default. Grab it and see what you think.
