Table Top Racing – Review

There are some genres which will never die, Zombies (no pun intended), Puzzle Games and Miniature racing games. Table Top Racing isn’t a zombie game, but might just be the best miniature racing game I have played in a very long time. Though I did find this game a slow starter, it has the right amount of graphics, performance and humor to keep me coming back for more.

Table Top Racing offers lots of game modes, this could be fastest lap, smash the other driver or simply get over the finish line first. To that end, the controls have been simplified and now consist of only four buttons. There is no accelerate button (The game takes care of that), there’s the left and right buttons, boost and FIRE!

After each race you gain an amount of coins, these can then be spent on faster/stronger cars or upgrades. I always admire a game that’s free, and doesn’t shove ads or IAPs in your face. You can buy coins if you want, prices range from 69p which I would pay for this game anyway to £6.99. But you could quite happily not spend a penny and still have loads of fun with this game, but I may be tempted to fork out 69p in order to beat some of my fellow DH writers.

Apart from steering, your only other concern in Table Top Racing is the variety of boosts and weapons you can pick up on the track. There are turbo boosts, rockets, bombs, and even EMP bursts. Just like Mario Kart you can only carry one at a time to begin with. Tap on the fire icon and you’ll unleash whatever weapon you’ve picked up from the track. The further you get into the game the more fast and furious they get, races get packed with opponents, this means that getting ahead of the pack on every corner becomes imperative.

Some people may say that Table Top Racing isn’t perfect, but I cant see that. Once you get passed the slow start and start generating coins, the pace increases and so does the fun factor. Move aside Micro Machines, Table Top Racing is table pole position!
