Transcend 240GB SSD and 32GB USB On-the-Go Flash Drive Review

Transcend 240GB SSD and 32GB USB On-the-Go Flash Drive Review

Transcend 240GB SSD220 SATA III 2.5 inch Solid State Drive

The main attraction of the Transcend SSD is gonna be the price. For only £62.94, that’s a great price for 240GB of SSD.  I am also a fan of the Transcend support, as in the past they have been quick to respond.

This was to replace the HDD I was using with Window 7 installed. I replaced it, and then installed Windows 10. There was a huge jump in performace, and I even noticed it when install Steam games, as they were quicker to install, and loaded faster.

  • Avg. 4K Random Read Speed 23.9MB/s
  • Avg. Sequential Read Speed 466MB/s
  • Avg. 4K-64Thread Mixed IO Speed 23.1MB/s
  • Avg. 4K-64Thread Write Speed 108MB/s

I was suprised by how light the drive was in the hand. I was looking in the box expecting to find something to go with it. Booting Windows 10 is actually faster on this SSD, then on my new work laptop.

Overall the write speed was average for me, but for the price, you’re not gonna be after any juggernaut. This is a great solid SSD for running an OS from, and the price is great for first time buyers in the SSD market.

Transcend 32GB 380S USB On-the-Go JetFlash Flash Drive – Silver

I find this one of the most useful pieces of kit to have on you. The ability to plug into your phone, and then take it out and plug into your computer with no additional accessories is fantastic! I did find that playing music, or games off it for a long period of time can cause it to get very hot.

The JetFlash is one of the smallest devices out there at only 28.1mm x 12.25mm x 4.5mm. The drive is meant to be resistant to dust, water and shock when the cap is used, though I admit I am a little afraid to test their claim. It’s read speeds can top at 19MB/s, while write speed is up to 7MB/s. Though I never saw 19MB when testing read speeds, it always topped at around 14MB.

I am more then aware that there are bigger and better drives out there, but the selling point for this is the size. I can stick this in my pocket and not even feel it. The fact it can also plug into a USB port is a massive bonus, with no need for additional cables.

You can grab one from Amazon for only £15.88
