Trust GXT 638 Speakers Review

There aren’t many products that can maintain a 4 star rating on Amazon with almost 800 reviews. The Trust GXT 638 Digital 2.1 Console speakers hold that accolade, with purchasers loving the look, the sound quality and the price point. So I was keen to get these plugged in and see the hype for myself.

These wired and wall-powered speakers are pretty substantial. It’s super-easy to set up, and once you’re done with that you’re away. It’s a bit of a shame there’s no Bluetooth capability for hooking up to a phone for music, but they’re marketed as console speakers so if you wanted something for wireless music I’d look elsewhere. Having said that, they do handle music brilliantly. The bass is punchy and doesn’t need to be maxed-out to hear it clearly.

The two desktop speakers don’t feel as meaty as the bass speaker, but they do look good regardless. This is definitely an attractive set-up, with a sleek matte-black finish and silvery trim – these look great on my desk. They have digital input for Playstation and Xbox consoles and analogue for PC, TV and phones/tablets. I’ve enjoyed some great gaming time with these, the sound is more immersive than anticipated from a 2.1 speaker system.

The remote control makes adjusting volumes a lot easier than other 2.1 kits I’ve tried. It can just sit on the desk – no need to go desk-diving for an integrated controller. I’d only have a small moan that there’s no way to know exactly how high the bass or volume is; it would’ve been really cool to have a little LED display showing the volume levels. The high tones are crisp and clear and the lows really boom out – I wonder what the neighbours thought when I was putting the GXT 638 through its paces with my TIDAL account. The FLAC audio was pure and clear on playback.

Subwoofer frequency range is from 45Hz to 130Hz, and the satellites handle 95Hz through to 20KHz. The input is a wired SPDIF optical 3.5mm. There’s no headphone connection, which is totally ok with me, but might be a problem if you don’t want to be switching inputs on your device.

I would say that the Trust GXT 638 is well worth a purchase if you’re looking for a well performing sound system for a reasonable price. I’ll be using mine for a while yet.
