Warrior Owl Case – Review

Create & Case have put one of Rachel Caldwell’s (Philadelphia-based artist and printmaker) best pieces of work onto a wallet style case for the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact. To make sure all Art lovers can enjoy this case they have gone that bit extra in making it out of “Vegan Leather” so it won’t offend anyone.

The case comes in an underwhelming generic box with a printed sticker to show what model it’s for. That’s where the bad news ends. The case fits the phone perfectly – I’ve had many cases which worried me as they looked as though they would scratch the phone simply by attaching them, but not with this one.  The camera and flash holes line up perfectly and don’t affect photos with light halos. The magnetic clasp isn’t overly strong but it isn’t going to come lose randomly either. Overly strong magnets can damage the clasp over time as they are stronger than the leather.  A bit about the Vegan Leather.  Being that I could be in the Darwin Glutton Club this is the first time I have touched Vegan Leather. It doesn’t feel as soft and premium as real leather, it has a more plastic feel to it so it should be easier to maintain and clean than real leather. Even with this, it doesn’t feel cheap and still gives the impression of real beige leather.

Inside you have a black mounting rack for the phone and space for a business card. Unlike some wallet style cases, you cannot fit the whole contents of a female purse inside. This is handy for the sort of person who needs an emergency business card at all times. As a secondary function, the plastic rack which holds the phone in place is only part vertically attached to the case, which means that the phone can stand on it’s side and be folded back to make a stand.

The main reason for getting this case is the Warrior Owl artwork. The detailed artwork is just beautiful. It’s leagues above the normal sort of artwork you can expect to see on cases. What ever printing process they use is spot on – all the line work and colour blending is just perfect. This isnt going to wear off or look aged any time soon.  The colours stand out from the beige leather, every detail has been thought out with this case. As the saying goes “ A picture is worth a 1000 words”, so have a look for yourself at the below image. If you fancy this case for yourself MobileFun stock it for £24.99, Which may be a fair bit for a basic wallet case but the artwork is what separates this from all those other boring cases.
