Where are they now?

Where are they now?

Where are they now?

This is a writeup on how some parts of Android were massive in the beginning and now over time have been forgotten about. Some have been bought, while some have just been forgotten. This isn’t a long list and hopefully it can be amended to include more and more additions.

Timely – Was a fantastic clock/alarm app. It looked great and was a popular choice for review site. The developer Bitspin got bought by Google in January 2014. Nothing has been announced since, though we are hoping for good things in the future.

Chameleon Launcher – This was going to be the launcher to own. Was very popular on kickstarter, then got released and just never met the expectation. I even went in for it, and was not impressed. I have tried to contact the devs, but haven’t heard anything back. The last update on the Play Store was in April 2013. Checking on their site the last blog entry was November 2013.

AudioManager Pro – This has always been my app of choice. You can set profiles, have them based on time. Nice widget for the home screen and it works. The last update on the Play Store was April 2013. I really like this app and still use it. But on bigger and better screens the layout starts to looked blurred and outdated.

4EXT Recovery – For rooted users, this is a recovery system for your device. I used this a number of devices ago, and its great. It was a very popular recovery option, but the developers has been busy on other things and 4EXT has fallen to the side. I have been keeping a close eye on this since getting the One. But now a new range of devices have come out, and just seems to be pushing this back further and further.

FreeYourAndroid  – This was a news reader app by the FreeYourAndroid(FYA)/VillainROM team, for the website www.freeyourandroid.com. On checking that website is now down and not working. The last update for the app was March 2013.

XDA-TV Presenters – When I first really got into the Android community, I used to religiously watch the XDA youtube channel, for two reasons – The wealth of news and knowledge, and the charismatic and funny presenters:

Sassibobhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHF4nT_1qWY – Sassibob is still a Youtube celeb, but has stepped away from the Android/tech videos. You check out youtube channel here

romtoolbox

Sam Caplathttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkD7S1avDIQ – Sam runs his website Thecameraassistant and is even on IMDB

caplatsmells

Azrienoch  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMRr3RM_ZHg – Azrienoch is around, but doesn’t appear to be doing anything public. He still has a youtube account, thats not been updated for 3 years.
