Floating Soft Keys – Review

Floating Soft Keys Main

Presenting Floating Soft Keys.
This app makes use of pingpongboss’s StandOut libraries to make small (and resizable) soft keys that you can drag anywhere across the screen. For devices with soft keys as default navigational controls, this app is most effective when used in combination with CyanogenMod’s or ParanoidAndroid’s expanded desktop mode.

An app that sets your hardware/ software keys on your homescreen for ease of use or to save wear and tear on the keys, themselves. Maybe your hardware buttons stick or are broken? I know a few guys who own a Samsung Galaxy S3 who now have issues. I seem to remember a few  HTC Desire HD owners having hard key issues also. These things do happen with our phones and tablets and I think this application is a useful alternative, to prevent issues arising or even helpful in the worst case. Possibly useful for gaming too when used with an Extended Desktop mode.

As you can see from the app settings above, you have plenty of options available to customise the look and appearance of your new floating soft keys
  • Button size
  • Transparency
  • Home long press (None, Google Now, Power Button)
  • Button spacing
  • Custom icons. (Hit here takes you to the development thread on XDA, there you’ll find detailed instructions on how to make your own and where to place the icons to use. Actually it’s very straight forward.
  • Horizontal orientation. (I prefer vertical but you have a choice)
  • Invisible drag icon
  • Show persistent notification. (So easy to turn off. When you want to)
  • Start at boot

Once all your changes have been made to suit. Just hit  [Reload bar,] You’ll also notice when placed that the arrow soft key is for moving the floating bar around your screen so it doesn’t get in your way, which it really can. Have a play with the settings to set as you need.

Below you’ll see the app in action and below that again the link to Google Play for download, free without ads.
