Heroes: A Grail Quest – Review

My new favorite game is Heroes: A Grail Quest. You control a knight, who has been tasked to get the holy grail for his ill king. But its not that easy, you have to explore the country, battle with baddies and lay siege to castles.

Heroes uses a top-down view when playing the game. The controls are simple tap to move/fight, and a turn-based system, which reminds me of Civilization. You control your main unit around the map, similar to a chess piece. While doing this you can pick up treasure and other items that can be used in battle.

You can acquire different types of units from buildings that are randomly placed. Fights begin when you approach an enemy on the map, but I have found that if your troops are small then its best to avoid them.

Battlefields consists of a 5 x 7 hex grid. Each unit type you have in your command are bundled up into one stack with a number indicating its total strength, this makes it easier to see your troops at a glance. As you would expect each unit type has its own strengths and weaknesses, so archers have a very good range attach and rogues have sneak attack bonuses.

You take turns to move and attack the enemy, but I’m happy to say its not game over if you lose all your troops, you just have to start collecting them again. Heroes doesn’t look very flashy, but as a casual game, you can tell time has been spent in the gameplay.

This game costs 60p, and that’s it. I have looked and there are no IAP’s. I recommend grabbing this as I’ve been having loads of fun.
