Kick-it Kickstand – Review

In a market bloated with stands and rests for your phone, nowadays you need to be releasing a really kickass accessory to get out in front. The Kick-it Kickstand does exactly what it says on the box, but its not going to jump out at you. This stand is more of a dark horse, it may not be the best looking, but its strong and works.IMAG0004

I’m not saying its not a functional stand, as upon opening I was able to stick it to my phone and it worked a treat. But unlike the NanoGrip I reviewed before, the Kick-it loses that stickiness quickly, making the selling point of being able to “attach” it to any device slightly flawed. My phone is currently resting on it, but any pressure on the front of the screen means it falls off. But like the NanoGrip, you can apply warm water to the grip pad on the back of the phone stand and after letting it air dry for 10 minutes, the stand is as good as new.

The idea behind the Kick-It is great, its probably one of the lightest and thinnest stands in the market that i’ve seen. Which means when attached to your device, you can put the phone in your pocket still. It started life as a kickstarter project and managed to raise over $5000. After all the work to bring this to life, to me it feels a little rushed. The stand may feel cheap when you get it out of the box, but I think this is be down to the thin and light idea behind the stand, using cheaper components make the stand lighter and easier to use. When using to watch movies on the train, or at my desk, it works a treat.

For the hour I first used it, it worked brilliantly. But I think the problem is that its a one phone stand. You  attach it to your device, but it has to stay there. I was changing phones, cases testing it out and this may have removed any stick it had left. A bonus is that you don’t just get the stand, when you buy you get a whole load of goodies, see below:

The Kick-It stand is currently going for $19.95 plus S&H. I would buy this stand and perhaps attach it to a case, meaning I could just take off the case instead of the stand itself. If you have a phone you’re keeping for a while, then this would be a good stand to get. The plastic means its very light, but also durable, it managed to stand up to all the tests I put it through.
