King of E-Readers

featured image vs ebook readers

It’s safe to say the world is full of tablets and phablets all with the ability to stream movies, music and gaming on the go, sometimes it’s nice to slow things down and enjoy a good book, however you maybe at the end of your favourite book so decide to take your next one with you to work or school but this does weigh you down.

Ebooks are a great solution to this problem with some devices capable of holding thousands of stories and novels and cutting down paper consumption, with android coming loaded with playbooks and Amazon coming loaded with kindle also the ability to have one or the other on both devices ( with alot more tinkering with playbooks on the kindle) the question is which should I choose?

Let’s start with kindle

Amazon are the behemoth when it comes to ebooks introducing the world to the first kindle back in 2007 and since then come from leaps and bounds giving us the kindle fire.

With a brilliant white background the text really pops you can however change the text font from a Pre loaded selection and change the size and even the page colour from white, sepia, black and even green all of which will make it easier for your reading style.

The ability to bookmark is a must with E-Readers because the last thing you want is to have to scroll to find your last place and the Amazon does this however it’s not very eye catching, you can share your progress via email, SMS, hangouts etc but no Facebook (not that I could see) and a direct link to the Amazon kindle store

Sadly Amazon fall short when it comes to page turning animation with a unflattering slide action which to be honest belongs in your app draw not your eBook reader but may make up for it with their sexy library screen which resembles the kindle fire tile screen.

Personally I do feel for a company that have a huge impact in the eBook market that not enough attention to detail was bought to the table with the android app but it’s free which is a good thing so if the little details don’t bother you this is a great app for you, however if this isn’t for you then read on.

The play books app is a different experience from the kindle the white can be set to your preference with a fantastic slider and like the kindle you can change the color of the page from white to black and sepia however you can resize the text as well as change the font and the spacing of each line and you can download a dictionary just in case there are words you don’t understand and does come or loaded on many new android devices but just in case it didn’t the link will be below.

As like the kindle you have bookmarks bit unlike the kindle you have a nice blue marker just for aesthetics really.

But here is where the difference really shows and that is with page turning, you have a beautiful animation designed to imitate the real visuals of a page turning.

The library isn’t the best to be honest but it does show the covers of your book in a neat basic fashion, and the online store is forever growing with a large amount of free and paid books

At the end of the day all do the same job it is your choice on how you want your reading experience and I hope my words have helped you in your decision.

Happy reading guys and girls and feel free to comment below of you feel another app belongs among the kings of E-Readers

  1. You can upload PDF and epubs to Google play books from your phone or desktop too and those books become part of your library, synced across devices.
