Neon Alarm Clock Free – Review

Neon Alarm Clock Free – Review

Timely took the Android community by storm, by releasing one of the first truly enjoyable alarm apps. Neon Alarm Clock entered the market before Timely but Timely’s released has caused it to be overshadowed and forgotten, and though I can see its potential, in testing it doesn’t even come close to Timely. Neon Alarm Clock feels like that weird uncle, who still thinks he’s 20 and you only see at weddings and funerals. Fun to be around, but only for a couple of hours and then he starts to feels a bit weird. You end up wanting to hang out with the younger hipper Timely.

Neon Alarm Clock starts of great, it throws you into a tutorial, showing off all the nice gestures you can use, like swiping down on an alarm will activate it, swiping across to view all the alarms and tapping the clock to set it. But the app starts to fall short around this time, the graphics are clunky and I had to swipe down a number of times before the alarm appeared to activate. The colours in Neon Alarm Clock are very bright, but appear to be a bit samey, and after a while they all start to look the same.

Its difficult to not compare Neon Alarm Clock with Timely, as so many of its features are in the app. To set the time you swipe around the clock, Timely did this with grace and I had to do a video just to show off the effect.  Neon Alarm Clock just allows you to swipe around, but there are no effects, no graphics, it just feels like a chore.

If  Timely had never come out, then Neon Alarm Clock would be the closest we would get to it. The effects and graphics are still a bit clunky and the overall app needs some work. When you have an alarm app that appears to be performing poorly, the last thing you want is to trust it to wake you up in the mornings! I will check back on this later, but for the time being,  Neon Alarm Clock wont be replacing Timely.
