NicePlayer BETA – Review

There is no end to the choices of music player you can get. Most newer apps are using the much desired holo interface, for its clean layout. But since Google Now, there has been some slow growth in the Card-UI areas. Apps that take on the card look similar to Google Now, are popping up on the play store. Personally I really like it, I like the crisp white card layout.

As a fan of Google Now’s UI, NicePlayer offers an almost clone experience. Albums get their own card which are arranged in stacks. You pick an album out of the stack, allowing you to scroll through the stack for an easier view. Clicking on an album brings it into focus and the tracks pull out from under it. I actually really like this way of doing things, it feels smooth and a little bit classy. Its a little like having Roger Moore on your phone, ordering a Martini.

Using the app for the while, I found a couple of annoying issues. One being actually picking a song, the text is so small, that I had to end up using a stylus to pick the correct track. You can just select the alumn, and then pick the track from the playlist, but this isn’t always the prefered option.

The playlist offers you a lot of customization and additional options. Some of the options include song shuffle, a sleep timer, and an equalizer is present for tweaking how things sound. Messing around with these settings did cause a lot of FC’s, but this is often the case with betas. There is some much needed functionality that is missing at the moment, but i’m sure the apps developers are working on these.

NicePlayer, being the nice player that it is, will import all the music for you on your phone. It also offers a very useful file manager, allowing you to find all those missing music files, but also could easily be a replacement for your stock file manager app. A slight bug I found was songs played through this file manager, don’t have any album art. No biggy for me, but not sure if this will be fixed.
