OnePlus lights up the night sky with the first-ever ‘Moonbow’ shot on the OnePlus 9 Series

Extremely rare and almost impossible to see with naked eye, the Moonbow phenomenon was recreated by OnePlus to capture the #TrueColors of the full moon, shot on the OnePlus 9 Series

OnePlus lit up London’s skies with a technologically created ‘Moonbow’, typically a rare and awe-inspiring natural phenomenon that is only ever seen in a handful of remote locations around the world.

Using high-powered light projections beamed through a wall of mist set under the perfect light conditions of the full moon, OnePlus created London’s very own first-ever man-made Moonbow in front of Tower Bridge, shot on the OnePlus 9 Series.  The man-made Moonbow took 12 hours of on-site build time, used 60 tonnes of environmentally friendly recirculated water an hour and was created by a high power 20,000-lumen light projector.

Typically, a Moonbow only occurs naturally when the light from the moon is refracted through water droplets in the air and is usually too faint to excite the cone receptors in the human eye making it extremely difficult to discern its natural colors. However, using this OnePlus 9 Series camera, co-developed with Hasselblad, the once faint colors of the Moonbow were calibrated and now clearly visible through the lens of the camera, capturing the phenomena as nature intended.

The #TrueColors Moonbow has been inspired by OnePlus’ partnership with Hasselblad, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of cameras and lenses. Hasselblad is renowned for their iconic design, uncompromising image quality, and exquisite treatment of natural colors. The OnePlus 9 Series with Hasselblad Camera for Mobile features Hasselblad’s iconic natural color calibration.

The OnePlus 9 Series is OnePlus’ biggest leap forward in camera quality, achieved through its long-term partnership with legendary professional camera manufacturer Hasselblad, whose cameras have immortalized some of the most iconic faces and events in modern history – including man’s first steps on the moon. OnePlus’ new flagship camera system, Hasselblad Camera for Mobile, brings multiple breakthroughs in smartphone photography, centered around the company’s new standard for smartphone color performance – Natural Color Calibration with Hasselblad – and premium hardware for improved image quality. The OnePlus 9 Series also offers powerful performance with the latest Qualcomm® SnapdragonTM 888 mobile platform, the superior Fluid Display 2.0 with a DisplayMate A+ rating, and industry-challenging fast charging solutions, Warp Charge 65T and Warp Charge 50 Wireless. OnePlus and Hasselblad jointly calibrated the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro sensors, carrying out numerous lab tests using Hasselblad’s high standards for color. They then worked together to optimize hundreds of real-life scenes through computational photography to fine tune the color based on their mutual understanding of color performance as well as smartphone users’ needs and habits.

The Moonbow is the brand’s first step in its #TrueColors campaign encourages people to share pictures that authentically reflect their locality, and to reverse the acceptance of the doctored and filtered images that have become custom.

Over the next four weeks, entrants will be set weekly themes on the subject of true: True Attitude, True Love, True Freedom and True You, and each week Hasselblad photographer Julius Hirtzberger will choose the winner who will receive a OnePlus 9 Series handset and other goodies. There will also be an opportunity to enter the True World Experience competition, where six winners will each be given the chance to travel to one of six continents, documenting it all on the OnePlus 9 Series.
