Party Van (4chan Viewer) – Review
Im not the biggest fan of 4chan, I think of it as Imgurs weird cousin. The kind of cousin, who when you visit likes to show you the latest weird porno he’s found. For this review I stayed out of the “Adult” areas and concentrated on the slightly normal sections of this weird and wonderful world.
When you open the app you are greeted with a nice clear list of the available boards you can view. They are colour coded too, so the light blue are the “normal” sections and the red section is for the over 18 content. You simple click on the wording and this will load up a list of all the posts.
You get a clear list of thumbnail images, this makes it easy to scroll through the content until you get to the post your interested in. One part of the UI I liked was the refresh button is an F5 button, this reminds you that 4chan is a desktop based site. Though the UI may be a bit basic (Compared to the official Imgur app), I feel it doesn’t need to too complicated. You just need to be able view the section you want, and then scroll through the images and posts till you find the one you want.
Once you have clicked on an image, this opens the Image Viewer for the app. You can then swipe across to view all images, you also have the ability to display it as a slideshow, save images and share them.
Instead of always having to scroll through and find your favourite section, there is a “Pinned” part of the app. This means you can tick all the sections you like, and the swipe to the pinned partition. This then displays a much smaller list, which you can then click on to view the content.
I’ll be honest, this in no way compares to the official Imgur app. But like 4chan itself, you don’t need a complicated feature rich app to view it. You need something to get the job done, and this app achieves that perfectly. I would recommend having this app in your arsenal as you never know when you might need to catch up on the latest rants.
