Pocket Flyout is a new application management tool on Android based on a gesture interface. Swipe, touch and move to play around.

A few “overlay” applications are already present in Google Play right now. Off the top of my head I think we reviewed Side Bar Pro and possibly something called Glovebox before. Pocket Flyout offers the same functionality.  You can set-up a target area (which is only available on the left of your screen. Hopefully the development team will let you predefine where you can launch from in future updates) and access your complete list of apps, favourites and recently used. All this can be done by letting Pocket Flyout run as an Active Service which you can then use to have all your apps just a swipe away. No more going back to your home screen!

Features include..

  • Swipe + move down/up to choose the right option
  • Multiple options: all applications, favourite applications , recent applications
  • Fast adding favourtie applications: just swipe the app to make it favourite
  • Lunch your applications wherever you are
  • Move your favourites applications to set the order you like
  • Fast swipping between recent applications
  • Fast and fluid
  • Only a slight impact on battery life in testing

As you can see from the screen shot above, I’ve used Pocket Flyout to have instant access to my most used applications on my Nexus 5.  (Please note that the icons will be the default stock icons because I use an Xposed Module called Unicon.) You can freely move these around in the order you prefer. If you like to set photos of the kids or your cat as your wallpaper and like to keep things clean, we’d certainly recommend Flyout to achieve a clutter free home screen with instant access to your favourite apps.
Still very new to the Play Store and free with zero adverts the developer mentions…

The application is in constant development. We would like to add many features in a near future. Please share your opinion about the Pocket Flyout with us in a comment or e-mail. Tell us what kind of features would you like to have. We will do our best to do it.

  1. Looks good, I just installed it on my Galaxy Nexus, my only concern is your comment about slight impact on battery life while testing, my battery life is horrible without any other apps draining it..

  2. Ever so slight but it has to run constantly as a service. Try it for a few days and see for yourself. 🙂
