Redline Rush – Review

Most driving game take a while to get used to. You’ll spend a while adjusting to the controls and figuring out the best way to brake and accelerate round corners to get the best advantage. With Redline rush you dont have to worry about this at all, you get given two buttons and neither of them are the throttle. This is a simple, flashy endless-driver style game. This game looks good and offers a fun experience, but anyone after a racing game should avoid this one.

You are put in control of a fast sporty car, and stay away from the incompetent police for as long as possible. The other civilian drivers seem determined to get in your way, as do roadblocks, police cars, and the mind boggling mine-dropping helicopters. The only control you have is to go either left or right and weave between whatever blocks are thrown in your way. This does make it easier to achieve your other goal, getting coins and boosts.

This game is all about IAP’s, You can buy coins in bundles ranging from 69p for 5,000 all the way up to £13.99 for 400,000. You can also spend £1.99 to double your coin score permanently, or throw down £1.49 to get a gem magnet. Though one advantage is that you don’t need the IAP’s to enjoy the game, and you can get by without if you want.
I’m still not really sure why this game has decided to use the gold coins in the road, as this seems to take away the realism of the game. Driving through the coins picks them up and lets you buy new cars, boosts, and tracks to drive on. Brightly coloured balls turn your car into a magnetic, give you a speed boost, or multiply your score.

One fun part of the game is the crash effect, hitting anything deemed too solid with the front of your car brings up a Burnout-style ending. Even the slightest clip will send your car flying into the sky, your car then seems to turn to paper and gets crushed. Another Burnout effect appears when you nudge other cars, this’ll perform a takedown, smashing bystanders and police into oblivion.

Someone described this game as “slapstick” and I would agree with that, you don’t have any real control, but the game does try to make it exciting with cash and crashes. It’s not the next big game, but its almost like 2 Fast 2 Furious, brainless and ballsy, with plenty of effects.
