Review: Logitech K400 Plus Keyboard

Review: Logitech K400 Plus Keyboard

In our touchscreen world, you’d be surprised anyone actually used keyboards anymore. But they are more popular today then they ever were. In the world of media streamers and smart TV’s, people are wanting a way to navigate and enter text on their tv and a traditional mouse and keyboard just won’t cut it.

Media streamer and Smart TVs are becoming a living room stable much like the DVD player and Betamax before them. We are quickly discovering that remote controls don’t have what it takes to use these new media centers to their full potential. You may want to do a Google search, or log into your email, and this isn’t possible with a standard remote. Its not even possible with a standalone keyboard, as you still want to move across the screen, so a keyboard/mouse combo is where it’s at.

Logitech state it has:

A low profile and quiet keys, a large, customizable touch-pad, and the ability to be used with Android, Windows RT and Chrome OS as well as Windows 7, 8 and the upcoming Windows 10.

On testing I was able to use it across all those platforms, and primarily using it on my Minix Android and Windows boxes, but I do have to move the USB receiver between boxes.

There were a couple of negatives I found, there is no back-light for the keys, or a rechargeable battery. But for the price I was never expecting the world, and I managed to get 99% of everything I wanted from the keyboard. As mentioned there is no rechargeable battery, so the K400 has included two batteries (AA sized), but don’t fret as Logitech states:

A battery life for the keyboard of 18 months

Its a great lap size and weight, which means having it on your lap for a while is no effort at all. So is perfect for reclining on your chair, and popping this on your lap, its a perfect companion for TV watching and TV anything else, like browsing, chatting, or streaming.

There are a number of shortcuts on the keyboard, which can be accessed along the top row of controls. These include standard browsing keys and playback controls.

The touchpad and buttons worked really well. They clicked when I wanted them to click. Logitech state:

The touchpad also supports multi-touch features – moving one finger around the 3.5″ rectangle will move the mouse pointer on-screen, but using two fingers on the right hand side of the touchpad will enable you to conveniently scroll content up and down.

For £36 this is an absolute must for anyone with a smart tv, PS4, media streamer or living room computer. Navigation is awesome, and the convenience of a lap sized, light keyboard and mouse combo is great.

  1. Hello Luke,

Thank you for this review. I’m wondering, though, which Minix box you tried the K400 Plus on. I understand that the K400 Plus is compatible only with Android Lollipop upwards, and most Minix boxes are still stuck with KitKat. I have a Minix X6 and I’m looking to buy this keyboard, but I want to make sure it will work for my box. Will appreciate your reply.

    Have a nice day.

    Chuck
