Review: SteelSeries Siberia V3

This is my first time with anything from SteelSeries, and the Siberia V3 is truly impressive. I am a massive fan of the over-ear design, the cups are joined together by a floating headband and two lightweight structural bands. The idea for this overall design, is to rest of around the head, and not have to be adjusted. Though this design is great for anyone with a normal to large head, if you have a smaller head, then it just doesn’t fit as well. I found with some people that it wasn’t on tight enough, but this was only for the small headed people and everyone else gave it glowing reviews.

The cups themselves are lined with memory foam, finished in a leather based material, this combination seals off external noise really well,  I also didn’t experience the “sea shell” noise you sometimes get when some noise escapes. There was little to no sound leakage either, so I could listen to my death metal at ease without annoying the old ladies on the train. So initially the only minus point at the moment is that due to the absence of adjustability in the V3’s headband, it means that it’ll either fit you or it won’t; there’s no in between.

Long listening sessions aren’t a problem while wearing the Siberia V3 headset, and I think this is largely due to it being lightweight. Though please dont think this means its cheap, or made or poor materials. I have yet to hear a creak, or a break, these are a solid pair of headphones, and even having dropped them a couple of times, they are still rocking out.

SteelSeries decided to use plastic over something cooler like brushed aluminium to keep the overall weight down. Long-term comfort is the (expected) result of that decision, so you can’t really complain about the overall look of them. Overall the simple design is a great selling point for me, as headphones are meant to be worn and not admired, so I will happliy pay more money for a more comfortable pair of headphones.

The Siberia doesn’t have a list of wild audio claims on the box, they don’t claim to offer you an audio journey like you have never had. Instead they deliver a flatter, crisp audio. From reading this hasn’t changed much since the V2, they have kept the same great audio experience people love. One trick I have learnt it to listen to your favourite ever track when trying out headphones, this means you know what to listen out for.

Though the V3 has the same drivers, as the V2 model, their placement has been adjusted, so you get a slightly less powerful bass.

If you’re not looking for surround sound then the Siberia V3 is the best over-ear, overall headset I have used on my phone. It’s lightweight, and sounds great out of the box. If you get the opportunity to try on the headset before you buy it, I would recommend it. Though there not a lot you can do if it is too big for you.
