Review: The Mighty Speaker from Morrison Innovations

I seem to have more bluetooth speakers than hot dinners at the moment. With tools like Kickstarter and Indiegogo, people are finally able to get the money to produce a wide range of speakers. Now I’ve stayed off the speaker radar for a bit, but when a company states their speaker is waterproof enough to survive a toilet flush, I had to see this in action. This was the case with the Mighty Speaker from Morrison Innovations.

The Mighty Speaker is dust proof, sand proof,  and waterproof. It’s built in such a way you could take it to the beach, on a boat or just to the shower. The speaker can withstand being immersed in up to three feet of water for 30 minutes, which I can confirm is the case. It’ll work fine after and during. The speaker also floats, which made it perfect for baths or being by the pool. The suction cup attachment made it handy for shower time. If you drop it in the toilet don’t worry:

The Mighty speaker is the successor to Morrison’s previous crowdfunded speaker, the Rebel. The company says the Mighty Speaker is “much louder and better designed” than its previous offering. I never got to play with the Rebel, but I can confirm its incredibly loud and has a premium feel. The material though light enough to float, feels secure in the hand and not like a cheap product.

I can hear you all saying “But Luke, what if I want to make a call in the shower”. No worries, the Mighty Speaker not only has a mic, but its waterproof. I had great fun testing this feature and apart from the water causing some noise, the participant could hear me fine. Theres a 6 hour battery built in, so I have been able to use as part of my morning shower routine for a number of weeks without needing to charge it.

The control panel is all protected, so you can play/pause, volume, calling up Google Now, and song search all while in the water. I tested out the blue version of this speaker but it also comes in a variety of colors, including red, orange, and gold. Playing a variety of songs from Neil Young to Pendulum, the speaker kept up with it all and still sounded great.

If you want to grab your own Mighty Speaker, you can do so on the company page now:
