Review: Tripod miniPro

I rarely use tripods when taking photos, or recording videos. But when iBolt sent me their Tripod miniPro, I was amazed at how easy it was to use, and that it’s small enough that it would be easy to keep with me at all times. The Tripod also came with a bluetooth “selfie” button, which I could attach to my keys, and use to remotely take a photo or start/stop recording.

The Tripod miniPro is a smaller, lighter tripod for people that want to be able to just pick it up and go out somewhere. With the legs straightened and folded together, the tripod can put into any backpack or bag that I own. In fact, if you don’t have room for its shape, you could mold the Tripod miniPro to fit in whatever you have space left for. As I mentioned its very lightweight and barely noticeable in my bag.

The tripod is essentially made of malleable material joints so that the legs can be bent to whatever shape you need. The tips of the legs are almost entirely covered with rubber for grippiness. The rest of the “joints” have rings of foam to grip whatever they’re wrapped around.

Moving up to the head, there is a nut you can turn to loosen and move the top attachment. Once the attachment is tightened, you can then use the attachments included to attach it t your mobile device or even a GoPro. A push-button release holds the attachment into place. For extra security, a rotating ring lock prevents the push button from being depressed and releasing the attachment.tripod-main-with-selfie

The Tripod miniPro really does excel at what it was made for. I have no doubt that it’s flexible enough to handle an almost infinite number of positions. The rubberized feet and joints are absolutely critical to getting the tripod to “stick” and they do a great job at doing it. The holding power of the tripod is also sufficient for my S6 Edge, M8 or SLR camera. Though I found that not every position is as stable as I would like, but this is more human error.

The only concern in the back of my brain, is that the joints may become less stiff with age and it may become more difficult to find a stable position. However the Tripod miniPro is a great price, so even if it does happen in 5 years, it’d of still been worth the money. This will of course only reveal itself with more and use.

The bluetooth button works as advertised, I simply had to turn it on, link it to my phone, then press and smile!

As I played with it, I realized that half of the fun is just bending it to get the best position to shoot from. It’s also fun to mess around with, even if you aren’t taking any photos. I just hope i’m not the only one who plays with his tripod.

The attachments and locking mechanism may not jump right out for you, but it provides a lot of value and ease of use.

As with any product, the Tripod miniPro isn’t going to satisfy everyone, but it’s an excellent product that performs very well for its price. The Tripod miniPro is a perfect miniature tripod solution for amateurs and enthusiasts who don’t need a more expensive tripod for everyday use. It’s also a good travel tripod for anyone who doesn’t want to/need to travel with a standard sized tripod.
