Review: Verus Cases for the Samsung S6 Edge

This was my first time using any cases from Verus, they were very nice to supply me three different cases to try with my new S6 Edge. All cases offer a “snap in” style for installation on your phone.

Verus Verge:

This is the Verge case, which is made up of two parts. There’s the thin TPU case that goes against your new S6 Edge. Then there’s the hard case that goes on top of that. The Verus Verge case is available in red, military green, satin silver, shine gold and the one I had which is dark silver.

My first impression was that it had a great look to it, with a sort of brushed metal look, which reminded me of my old HTC M8. It has very comfortable hold to it, and doesn’t slip out of my hand, unlike the unprotected S6 Edge does. Which I think is probably the most important feature of any case you look at. There are the obligatory cut outs on the back for the Camera and the dual-LED flash, this provides some distance from the camera lense, so the phone can be put on its back and not be resting directly on the lens. As well as two cut outs on the bottom for the micro USB port and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The volume rocker and power button are protected by textured buttons.

The Verge is a really sharp looking case, and could possibly be my daily driver. While it’s not chunky or bulky it still provides protection for my device. The grip is a major bonus, so that it won’t be slippery. Verus uses just the TPU layer at the top and bottom, so it will allow signal to transmit into your device. That means it won’t affect your signal for voice and data, as well as WiFi, Bluetooth, and NFC.

Verus Thor:

This is the Thor Case from Verus, it offers dual hybrid style protection whilst keeping an ergonomic design. Unlike the brushed effect of the Verge, the Thor has a matte finish, along with rubberized edges.

On the outside of the case is a tough polycarbonate (plastic) shell. The “dotted” pattern not only gives the Thor case a very unique look but also provides some texture so that you get some added grip while holding the case in your hand. Combined with the matte finish, this felt like it would never slip out of my hand. On the inside is the shock absorbing TPU. The TPU material is formed into a spiderweb design on the inside of the case to help increase impact absorption. The TPU material extends to both the top and the bottom of the case, forming the corners. Should you manage to drop your phone the hope would be that it would land on one of the corners and not sustain any damage thanks to the cushioning the case provides.

Along the bottom of the case you’ll find three individual cutouts, one for the speaker, another for the charging port and a third for the headset jack. These are reinforced with more TPU material for tactile feedback. On the back is the cut out for the camera and flash. There’s plenty of “lay-on-the-table” protection from the Thor Case, which is a big plus for me. The lip of the case, the TPU portion, does extend above the screen of the phone itself. This way if you were to place your phone down, screen side first, onto a flat surface, the case’s lip would make contact before the phone’s screen did.

The Thor Series provides a good amount of protection for my S6 Edge, and has a good design to boot. There’s plenty of grip from the case thanks to matte finish and curves of the case.

Verus Damda Slide:

One issue with wallet phone cases is that when using the case of this type your credit cards and other items are alway visible to strangers while you’re using your phone. The Verus Damda Series Case is different. The Damda Case, offers a secret compartment on the back where you can keep up to two cards inside. The case is quite protective as well, so not only are you keeping your cards safe, you protect them and your phone as well.

On the inside you’ll find shock absorbing TPU. This material (as you know) does a good job of handling shock and impact should you drop your phone. On the back of the case there’s a tougher polycarbonate shell to help against scratching. The Damda Cases secret compartment on the back is where you can store up to two credit cards, cash, debit cards, or ID. While many other credit card style cases hold more cards those cases don’t keep you cards hidden. The Damda does, thanks to it’s secret compartment.

The Verus Damda Series Case offers plenty of “lay-on-the-table” thanks to the TPU portion of the case. This lip extends up higher than the glass screen of the S6 Edge so that if you were to place your phone screen side down onto a flat surface the lip of the case would make contact with the surface before your phone’s screen did. This is great for the S6 Edge you get to use those Edge features without risking damage to your phone.

If you’ve been looking for a way to combine wallet and phone case into one then the Verus Damda Series Case is definatley worth a look. I loved the secret style drawer design on the back of the case, and still crack a smile when I use it.
