We all find ourselves wishing for more efficient batteries in our smartphones at some stage, for some a good solution is an extended or external battery. There are a few established and respected brands in this area, for many of the more popular phones. MyTrendyPhone.co.uk sent us one to review, unfortunately it’s unbranded, so I can’t provide a link back to the manufacturer’s site.
The packaging also had some strange wording, such as Capacative:2200mAh and Supper light?
Some specs from the packaging:
Output Voltage 5V
Output Current 750mAh
Capacity 2200mAh
Weight 50g
Dimensions 135.8mm x 69mm x 16.9mm
Charging time 3h approx
First charge took less than 3 hours, the case was already partially charged, as is the norm. Four blue LED’s on the lower rear indicate charging/discharging status, with a power button beside them. The case switches on automatically once attached to your phone, then powers off, when your phone battery get’s low enough just hit the button on the rear of the case and it will begin charging your phone battery.
Here’s where my main doubts began. Charged fully and left powered off for an hour, I attached it to my S2 which had only 3% battery left and left it charging my phone until it drained. I then checked the battery on the phone, which read at 64%. Something very wrong there. The stock battery in the S2 is 1650mAh, the battery in this case claims to be 2200mAh, yet it failed to fully charge the lower capacity stock battery ?
It actually only managed to top it up by 61%……
The design is something I also have a couple of issues with. If you are the kind of person who will be attaching and removing this on a regular basis I could see the MicroUSB port on your S2 getting damaged. The top of the case slides out in order to allow you to fit your S2 in place (which you need to do carefully), then slides down once in place.
The case adds bulk, which is to be expected, but also shrouds the camera lens to a depth of 6mm which not only looks terrible, but will most likely make low lighting shots even worse than they already are.
I also found the case to be even less grippy than the naked phone. Holding it with the case attached left me with a very strong impression that it would be more likely to get dropped, something I found less than reassuring.

Personally, I can not recommend this case, it’s performance was below what I’d expect for both the claimed specifications and the price. Try one of the known brands instead.
