Voxel Rush – Review

Voxel Rush is a game thats very difficult to hate. The premise is that you are hurtling through a Tron type landscape, your speed keeps increasing and you have to deal with various events that aim to stop you in your tracks. Throw in some coloured cubes that offer points or power-ups and Voxel Rush is becoming a staple in my games folder.

Voxel Rush is controlled by the phones accelerometer. Tilting your device down to go fast, tilt it up to go (slightly) slower, and tilt to the sides to steer. The nature of the game is to stay alive as long as possible, and it does get easier, but will take practice.

There is a distinct lack of details in the visuals of this game. Hence my Tron remark, as its all very clear blocks, and colours. This helps in making the game feel fast, as these towers just start coming at you from all angles. The game feels smooth and almost fluid in its responses to movement. This makes it easy to fly by buildings, gaining a near-miss bonus. Voxel Rush is all about speed, and the lack of detail means that you aren’t distracted at all, and just concentrate on the speed.

Now IAP’s, they do exist in this game, but they are hidden and don’t get all up in your business. After each run you generate some cash and credits. Cash can be spent on various upgrades including longer invulnerability, better speed etc. Credits are used for bonuses, such as distance doubler, or recover from a crash. IAP’s can be used to purchase both of these, but I have found that they aren’t needed and the game is still great even without them.

The sound in the game isn’t really my cup of tea. The electronic techno music, does help in creating the ambiance of the game, but after a while does become annoying.

Voxel Rush is a rush! Its fast paced gameplay, makes for an enjoyable round and will keep you coming back for more.
