Skydrive finally available for Android

Microsoft’s Skydrive cloud storage solution has been available on other platforms for quite a while, but up until now they have left poor Android users out in the cold.  However they have finally released their Android app allowing you to access your Skydrive documents and upload new ones.

Microsoft gives a healthy 7GB of free storage by default (with some old accounts like my own boasting 25GB), with a maximum file size of 2GB.  The app works well, although does lack some of the finer Android integration and  sharing options found in the leading Dropbox solution.  A free desktop app is also available for your PC or Mac (no Linux) allowing automatic folder syncing (this is only available as a paid option for the Box).

There are now plenty of cloud storage options available for Android, and if you’re already happily using Dropbox, Google Drive or SugarSync there is little here to compel you to change.  However if you’re trying cloud storage for the first time, or you’re running out of free space on one of the other services then Skydrive is well worth a look.
