Review: SOWTECH 1m Micro USB to USB / Micro USB Cable

The smartphone in our pocket is really a mini computer that seems to be able to do more and more. However we need to keep it charged up and often need to transfer data in and out.

This is where this cable comes in. You probably got a USB to micro USB cable with your Android device, and this will make a great backup / replacement. It will transfer data and charge from a PC or charger just as well as the original.

However with the clever design of this cable you can also flip open the USB connector to reveal a micro USB. There are a couple of potential uses for this.

Firstly you can charge from one micro USB device to another, for example giving your phone a boost from your tablet or charging up an accessory. This works using the OTG functionality of the source device so will only be able to provide a potentially slow 0.5A charge, but in many situations this will be enough to keep you going.

Secondly you’ll be able to connect your OTG capable phone or tablet to a device with a micro USB port. For instance phone cameras aren’t quite up to DSLR quality but if you’re dedicated camera has a micro USB data connection then you’ll be able to connect it directly to your phone and quickly transfer data without a PC or even needing to remove the memory card. Unfortunately most phones and tablets don’t make their data accessible in this way so you can’t transfer data between two Android devices.

This cable seems to have been well made from good quality materials that I’d expect to be durable. It even includes a velcro tie for winding it up. Unlike some cheaper cables which struggle to transfer a 1A charge, when plugged into the appropriate charger it has no problem carrying up to a maximum of 3.1A which will quickly charge up any Android phone or tablet.

Sowtech Micro USB

To buy a decent micro USB cable will cost you around the current £5.99 asking price, so this is definitely good value considering the extra functionality you’ll get with this cable.

Overall I couldn’t fault this cable and it comes highly recommended – especially to those who can make use of the extra micro USB to micro USB functionality.  Check it out from the Amazon link below…
